The R Bar T Quarter Horse Story
R Bar T Quarter Horses began as a family quarter horse operation with the intent to provide future generations with quality horses that perform in any arena they choose to compete in.
Over time, through triumphs and tragedies, R Bar T has evolved into a family venture that is now providing this type of quality horse for future generations of both our own and our extended family.

Alan Chipman
Alan grew up on a farm in American Fork, Utah. He learned at an early age how to work hard and efficiently to accomplish any task. After retiring from his full-time job as a heavy equipment operator with Geneva Rock, Alan made the move in 2017 to Idaho and now works full time at White Pine Flats. While in Utah, he operated successful custom hay business. He transferred his hay knowledge to Idaho and currently works as the farming manager for all White Pine Flats Ranch crop acres. In addition, he manages the day to day operations of R Bar T, and works with all of the R Bar T foals in order to create horses which learn ground manners from an early age. Alan also serves as the stallion manager, and coordinates all breeding efforts for stallions standing at WPFR.. |
Randy & Kasee Smith
Kasee was fortunate enough to grow up in the R Bar T family. She had the opportunity to work for various trainers throughout the Intermountain West, and has started and tuned up horses for individual clients as well. Growing up she was competitive in showmanship, western pleasure, and a variety of English disciplines. Her true love is reining and she competed in this event, along with rodeo queen pageants until she graduated college. She spent eleven years as an Agricultural Education teacher in Nebo School District before completing her PhD in Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications at Texas A&M University. Dr. Smith currently works at the University of Idaho as a professor in the Agricultural and Extension Education Department. Randy grew up starting colts and working on cattle ranches in Central Utah. He married Kasee in 2006, and has been instrumental in starting R Bar T two year olds since that time. Together, they have two daughters, Sam and Quincy, who are excited to carry on the R Bar T tradition. Sam started working with her first weanling colt in the fall of 2016. Quincy is the proud owner of Duke Dunit Major 2017 Brown colt. Both girls have older horses and are pursuing their own show careers. |
Legacy is not leaving something for people, it's leaving something IN people...
We are eternally grateful for the legacy left to us.
Tammy Sweat-Chipman (1962-2019)
Tammy grew up in Lehi, Utah working alongside her grandfather using horses as a tool to help on the farm as well as compete in the arena. Her love of horses continued to grow as she competed at a high school and professional rodeo level. At a young age she exercised race horses and was employed by a PRCA stock contractor for several years. Her show history includes competing at a State and Intermountain region level with horses she both showed and trained for others. She has taught riding lessons, lead 4H groups and served as one of the Longhorn rodeo team advisors for many years. She has held various association judging cards and judged all across the intermountain west. She was the founder of the Queen Expo (1993 – 1999) a 3 day rodeo queen training which by design, was a clinic for young girls who had the passion and family support but not deep pockets to support training. Countless young ladies attended, many going on to excelling in local, state and National competitions. Over the years Tammy has developed a passion for breeding quarter horses through analysis of pedigrees. Starting with a few well bred mares more than 30 years ago, she has worked to select sires which will increase the versatility of R Bar T bred horses. She retired from NaviSite – a Time Warner Cable Company where she worked in the technology field and traveled extensively. |
Tyrel Sweat
(1982-2006) Tyrel grew up as an integral part of the R Bar T family. He worked through high school by starting horses for others and had an amazing ability to put a solid handle on a horse in a short amount of time. In the rodeo arena, Ty excelled as a bull rider, competed on the USU Rodeo Team as a team roper, bull rider and was proficient at calf roping. He was the comic relief and voice of reason in a sometimes chaotic family quarter horse operation. Tyrel left us in 2006 to be with the Lord and ride the horses who left before him and to await the arrival in heaven for others to come. He is forever missed and always remembered. |
With Greatest Appreciation . . .

Over the past 30 plus years, we have listen, learned, formed friendships and been included in special events to include Ron's recognition as a 50 year AQHA breeder at the AQHA Hall of Fame. We are proud to carry on the legacy of the Cross Quarter Circle breeding program that was established in 1941 by Cornell Stewart in Las Vegas, Nevada and continues in Provo, Utah today.
